Captain Jeff Yates is an avid fisherman who is passionate about making and keeping his customers happy. Owner of TyJo Knot Charters, Inc., a Charleston-based, professional inshore charter guide service, Jeff has built a strong following of repeat customers over the years.
His true love is inshore fishing; in particular, he specializes in trophy speckled trout. Across the Southeast, his vast knowledge of the species is sought after by tackle shops and fishing clubs.
Born and raised in the Charleston area, Jeff was taught to fish the local waters by a master - his father David L. Yates, a local legendary trout fisherman. Yates is the younger of two brothers and combined, the family has 100+ combined years on the water.
Prior to becoming a fishing charter guide in 2002, Yates was an assistant golf professional at Atlanta National Golf Club (1990-93). In 1993 he had the opportunity to work for his father as an industrial contactor at Yates, Inc., inside Westvaco Paper Mill.
Always harboring a secret desire to become a charter captain, Yates fished every opportunity, continuously sharpening his skills in catching inshore Trout and Redfish. His name became well known throughout the local fishing community by winning or placing in more than 25 tournaments.
He is a third generation native of the Charleston area and is currently living in Mt. Pleasant. The name TyJo Knot was derived from his children’s names TYler and JOrdan.
When not hosting guided inshore fishing charters, Jeff can be spotted along with his ever - faithful Maltese companion Ollie, fishing the Charleston creeks and diligently honing his skills to make and keep his customers happy fishermen!
